$1.475 Million Generated in Tax Returns
Through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) grant-funded program known locally as Four Corners Tax Help, San Juan College continues to make a measurable impact across the region. In 2025 alone, the program submitted 1,893 tax returns, an increase of nearly 400 returns over 2024, when 1,515 returns were completed.
That growth represents more than just numbers. It represents families served, stress reduced and dollars returned to the Four Corners economy.
Last year, Four Corners Tax Help generated $1.475 million in tax refunds for individuals and families who used the service. Of that total, $571,973 came from Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) refunds, which go straight back into the local economy.
When community members file through this free service, they are not just checking off a yearly obligation; they are maximizing credits, avoiding costly preparation fees and ensuring accuracy with IRS-certified volunteers.

The success of Four Corners Tax Help is fueled by dedication and service. In 2025, eight volunteers contributed 1,620 hours of service, primarily students from the School of Business, alongside an instructor who provides oversight and guidance.
This model creates a win-win environment. Community members receive free, reliable tax assistance, while students gain real-world experience in tax preparation, client communication and federal tax law compliance.
The service operates across six different sites, expanding access and making it easier for residents throughout the Four Corners region to get the help they need.
No-Wait Drop-Off Service Available
Understanding that many people have busy schedules, Four Corners Tax Help offers a convenient packet drop-off option with no wait time. Taxpayers can drop off their documents and return later to pick up completed returns, making the process simple and efficient.
Community members are encouraged to come earlier rather than later in the season. Dropping off documents before April ensures ample time for accurate preparation and avoids last-minute stress.
