Join the San Juan College Planetarium's International Toys in Space.

Night sky picture of stars and nebula, San Juan College Planetarium, AstroFriday

Our February presentation at the Planetarium will be “International Toys in Space,” a 30-minute video which lets you join the crew of the International Space Station as they work with toys from all over the world. Your young scientists can hypothesize how the toys will operate in space, then we will take them onboard the International Space Station to see exactly how the toys operated!

Following the video for each presentation will be a short sky show, using the Planetarium’s star projector to depict the night sky of late February. We will also give out winter sky maps, while supplies last!

Showtimes

  • 6:30 p.m.
  • 7:30 p.m.

Admission

  • FREE
  • Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis—maximum seating capacity of 60 in the planetarium.
  • In order to preserve dark-adaption, there is no late admittance into the planetarium once the show has started!

Public Stargaze

If weather permits, we will offer a free public stargaze with telescopes at 8:30 p.m. in the courtyard between the Planetarium and the Connie Gotsch Theatre after the last show. The stargaze will last a maximum of one hour. There is no capacity limit for the stargaze, so come and observe with us! The headliner object for this evening will be the waxing gibbous Moon and the planet Jupiter! Additionally, we should be able to observe our binary “North Star,” otherwise known as Polaris, and the colorful binary Gamma Andromedae! If weather conditions are particularly favorable, we may also see the planet Uranus and such deep-sky objects as the “E.T. Cluster” in Cassiopeia, the Milky Way’s sister Galaxy, Andromeda, the Pleiades star cluster, the gossamer Orion Nebula, and the Beehive Cluster in Cancer!
